It is December 1st and it's finally snowing!!! Ekkk! I think it is safe to say, "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" I don't know about you, but we are getting excited for all the love and festivities the month of December has to offer.

We understand life can become hectic and we are all trying to save a buck or two, so here are 5 cheap December date ideas to keep the romance alive this holiday season.

1. Skating + Coffee & Bailey's

The weather is just about perfect for skating these days, not too cold but not too warm either. You can hold each others' hands and skate together at our personal favourite rink, Olympic Plaza. Don't forget to bring coffee from Heritage Roasting Company & Bailey's to warm you up during, or after the skate.

2. Airdrie Festival Of Lights

As much as we do appreciate Zoolights and Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows, if you take a bit of a drive outside of Calgary to Airdrie Festival Of Lights, we promise, you will not be disappointed. The event features Christmas lights, two miniature trains (THAT YOU CAN RIDE!), hot chocolate, bonfires, and Santa visits!

3. Volunteer

Spread holiday cheer by volunteering. Why not Adopt A Family and extend your shopping list this season? Give a family a hand up by giving them gifts they need like, essential household items, holiday treats, toys and games for the kids! Or, donate non-perishable food items to the Food Bank.

Click HERE for volunteer positions! Note, you don't have to stop after the holiday season is over. Giving back to your community should be all year round, plus, it is free to do! :)

4. Mt. Norquay

Bundle up, and get outdoors! Make the road trip out the mountains one weekend and hit up Mt. Norquay's tube park, ski/snowboard hill and snowshoe trails. Whatever mood you are in for a Winter activity, Mt. Norquay's got it!

5. Forts & Christmas Movies

On a day like today, we all wish that we could stay in bed and watch movies. Why not step it up a notch and build a blanket fort and watch your favorite Christmas movies. Who doesn't like feeling like a kid again?
